Aquatics Coordinator
The Tom A. Finch Community YMCA is currently seeking a qualified Aquatics Coordinator to join our team. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Aquatics Coordinator will lead aquatics staff to ensure safety in all aspects of YMCA pools and aquatics areas to all members, guests, and program participants.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- A current American Red Cross or Y-USA Lifeguard training certification that includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Basic Life Support, AED, and First Aid or certification obtained within 30 days of hire. Must be able to pass the current American Red Cross Lifeguard Class Pre-requisite test.
- Must pass a background check and drug screen.
- Must complete required Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communications, and Child Abuse Prevention training and maintain trainings annually for self and all aquatics staff.
- Be able to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to staff, members, program participants, and guests.
- Be able to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
- Must have enthusiasm and posses excellent customer service skills and excellent communication skills to staff, members, guests, and program participants.
- Must be able to articulate the YMCA's mission.
- Have proven proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates.
- Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team and demonstrate success in both.
- Must be able to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines as assigned.
DUTIES and Responsibilities:
- Communicates and enforces aquatics rules and guidelines to ensure a safe environment in all aquatic areas by eliminating unsafe practices and physical hazards. Ensures that aquatics staff do as well.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates aquatics staff. Lifeguard instructor certification is preferred; will be required to obtain at the first available opportunity.
- Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants.
- Enforces and maintains a clean, safe, fully stocked, and well organized work area.
- Handles and resolves aquatics concerns. Involves supervisor in situations that they may need assistance with.
- Adheres to the YMCA and Aquatics Department Dress Code while at the YMCA.
- Fills in direct programming when necessary; this includes lifeguarding and swim lesson instruction.
- Maintains readings and records of pool temperature and water chemistry. Completes regular pool maintenance on assigned schedule.
- Knows and follows correct emergency procedures and fills out incidence reports; administers proper first aid and carries out those emergency procedures in the event of an emergency. Trains aquatics staff in these procedures.
- Works without constant direct supervision and remains at assigned post for extended periods of time.
- Schedules and leads mandatory meetings and in-service trainings.
- Develop and maintain department budget.
- Develop and maintain department programs.
- Sets a good example in promptness, respect, manners, honesty, and caring for all members, program participants, and guests and shows character values that are in line with the values of the YMCA.
- Maintains current required certifications.
- Assumes other duties and assignments deemed appropriate by the Operations Director.
