Description:

GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Director of Childcare, the group leader will be responsible for the organization, delivery, and quality of YMCA summer day camp programs and upholding the requirements of the NC 5 Star State licensing standards.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Supervise and engage groups of children during daily camp activities

  • Plan, lead, and participate in age-appropriate recreational, educational, and enrichment activities

  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children at all times

  • Maintain active supervision during indoor play, outdoor play, field trips, and transitions

  • Build positive, supportive relationships with campers to promote inclusion and emotional growth

  • Follow all state licensing regulations, center policies, and safety procedures

  • Assist with behavior management using positive guidance and redirection techniques

  • Take attendance and maintain required documentation and records

  • Assist children with basic needs such as snacks, meals, hydration, rest periods, and sunscreen application (as permitted)

  • Communicate effectively with lead staff, supervisors, and families as needed

  • Set up, clean up, and organize activity areas and camp supplies

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow emergency procedures

  • Model appropriate behavior, language, and problem-solving skills

  • Support campers with varying abilities and needs

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming camp environment

Requirements:

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • Must have earned a high school diploma or GED

  • Complete basic BSAC Training

  • Complete required hours of in-service training

  • Obtain CPR/First Aid Certifications

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Must posses auditory, verbal, and visual capabilities to adequately communicate via telephone and in person
