Tom A Finch Community YMCA Announces Billy Freeman as New CEO

Thomasville, NC March 25, 2018 – The Tom A Finch Community YMCA in Thomasville, NC announced today that Billy Thomas Freeman will serveas the new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 26, 2018. 

Freeman currently serves as Senior Associate Executive Director at the J. Smith Young YMCA, in Lexington, a position he has held since 2011. Prior to his YMCA role, he served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Thomasville spearheading the renovations of historic Finch Field, building of the Ball Park Road Community Center and the skate park located at Doak Park.  Freeman spent 19 years with the Thomasville City Schools as a physical education teacher, coach and athletic director. 

"Billy comes to us with seven years of YMCA Executive Leadership experience” adds Tracy Brinkley, chairman of the board of directors for the Tom A. Finch Community YMCA and chair of the CEO Search Committee. “During his varied career with Thomasville City Schools, Thomasville Parks and Recreation, and the J. Smith Young YMCA, Billy has developed expertise in areas of finance, outreach, vision-casting, and leadership development. His faith-based commitment and dedication to working for the good of all each day will help strengthen and broaden our outreach into every sector of our city. We are excited to have Billy lead us as we continue our mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. His passion for telling the Y story in new ways will energize all of us seeking to truly be the Y for every citizen.”

In his current role with the J. Smith Young YMCA, Freeman oversees programs, aquatics, wellness, membership and day to day operations.  He is a member of the TRIP Board, Davidson County School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) and Davidson County Health Communities Coalition.  Freeman and his wife, Jane are long lifelong residents of Thomasville.

Regarding his upcoming tenure at the Thomasville YMCA, Freeman stated, “I am extremely thrilled about this opportunity and to be back working for the community of Thomasville.  I love the YMCA mission and what it stands for.  To be able to promote that mission in my hometown is an amazing opportunity.”
